Hell Hath No Fury

What are your thoughts on taboo stories? What imaginations crawl through your mind when no one’s watching? Do you, like some other folks, have a little tweeny itch that nobody can know about? Have you had a love so promising but highly dysfunctional?

KARMA IS A MIRROR by V. Adriane, a short story in Hell Hath No Fury: An African Romance Anthology

What do you see when you look at yourself in a mirror? I see myself naked and bare like I truly am. Every scar, every frown, every ruffle; I truly see, as is. My weaknesses and my strengths, if I look hard enough, I can see them.

Nicole Amondi, a Kenyan writer, is in a relationship with Akoth Onyango. For a few months now, their relationship has been rocky. One night, her friend, Kate Tiffany, proposes to introduce her to another woman, Tess Wambui. They have been having an affair for three months. Nicole’s friend also has a secret crush on her. On Christmas day, Kate goes out of her way to prove that if she can’t have her, no one else will.

By the law of attraction, Karma is a Mirror, is a depiction that the universe often reflects our worlds at us, through other people as well as our own experiences.

Sometime late in August of 2020, I received an invitation from Margaret Adetimehin to be part of a project. She said it was an anthology, and 18 other people would be in with it. At the time, I didn’t even know what an anthology meant. So like I usually did in such situations, I took myself to Google and checked the meaning.

Oh! A collection of short stories and poems by different authors and sometimes, the same author.

Boy, was I excited! I could finally write my first book, and also get to meet other amazing women writers from all over Africa. We would share our stories and write our experiences and you could see the continent and even across continents, through our eyes. It was a very delicious idea and I couldn’t wait for it to happen.

From faith to forgiveness to vengeance, and jollof rice, Hell hath no Fury is a Christmas-themed anthology based in the African setting. Amidst juggling day jobs and family, being sisters and friends, and just plain living, we have put together the first of its kind, An African Romance Anthology!
