Hi! I'm Lami

The Storyteller with Spunk.

Welcome to my space.

I’m a soulful wanderer who loves words, music, cosmic mysteries and everything in between. My biggest achievement is finding myself, and my happy place is by the beach under the stars, away from all the noise.

Professional Credentials

From Numbers to Words

I have a first degree in Business Studies from the University of Lagos, Nigeria and hold a professional certification as a chartered accountant.

My Journey

Not long after uni, I got a job in the finance unit of a healthcare firm, and through the years, moved along the official lines of bureaucracy, reviewing technical briefs, sprinkled with the regular finance reports; doing what I did best- writing.

I loved the numbers (still do), but in time, the words called out to me more. The certainty and predictability of the number world no longer held as much allure as it once did. I needed to create!

What I Found Out

Words are marble. I loved how they could be used to make new realities. I experienced the potential of creation, uttered by voice and eventually cemented on paper, for the sake of posterity.

Thus, in August 2020, in the wake of the global pandemic, I penned the very first words of what would begin my blog.

Anthologies

A month or so after, I partnered up with 19 African women, Black Female Authors (BFA), in different parts of the world and together, we created a masterpiece filled with different genres, an African Christmas Romance anthology- Hell Hath No Fury. Curious title, eh?

Over the next few months, I blogged on different subject matters, and with every piece I churned out, my writing became much better. And just like Naval Ravikant the Indian-American entrepreneur points out, there’s something magical about 10,000 iterations, not hours (winks).

In February 2021, the ladies of the BFA cooked another broth, nine of us this time, an erotic title- Nights at Club Nova. It was my first attempt at writing erotica and although I stumbled a bit, my BFA sisters were there to help pick up the slack (again, iterations).

Professional Experience

In time, I started learning how to ask the important questions, in my interactions with others, as well as my self-evaluation processes. I discovered that the art of copy felt as natural as breathing. For every 8 overly intellectual, passive words, I would somehow replace those with 4 actionable ones.

Since then, I’ve written fully branded web copy, brochures, Facebook ads, and email nurture campaigns, not to forget a personal fave- creating descriptions for art works.

As a freelancer, I’ve had the opportunity to work with a wide variety of clientele: music artistes, creatives, energy workers, healers, authors, coaches, spiritual leaders, media houses, financial and health institutions.

I have ghost written for clients, from songs, to books, movie scripts, speeches, video ads, and articles. I have also reviewed and edited art pieces in different forms as I believe, ‘if a thing is worth doing, it’s worth doing well!’

I’m not just a writer, I’m also a speaker. From mental health to writing, business to lifestyle, I love sharing my knowledge and experience with others. I’ve spoken at small gatherings and large conferences alike, always with the goal of inspiring and uplifting my audience.

As an evolving human, I’ve come to see that failure and discomfort are necessary tools for growth. I get up and try again, while paying attention to the lessons learned.

I’m obsessed with ‘why’ and ‘what if’ questions, and believe in the power of visualizing the big picture from the end to the beginning.

Oops, Almost Forgot

Did I mention that in August 2021, I published my first memoir, “The Girl in the Mirror: How 2020 Became The Year of My Grand Shift?”

It was an outlet for me to know myself truly and every moment since then has been a wonderful discovery.

Now, I focus ONLY on what is in my control, and leave the rest to the universe.

Which brings me to my proposal for you…
